I joined The Ugly Bug Ball site because I wanted to meet people who are beautiful on the inside.
My thinking was that perhaps this is where I would find people who accept and acknowledge that by the standards of society they are at or below average in the looks department, but also know that what makes a relationship or friendship last and worthwhile to maintain is more about what they are on the inside. Boy was I wrong!
By all accounts and standards I am a Shrek, and I'm ok with that. I accept that for a great many women I am not easy on the eyes or the imagination.
I'm not here to present myself to you in some skewed or tweaked illusion of self-perception.
I don't have a resume of amazing accomplishments, stories of world travel or incredible tales of successfully navigating life. I'm just a real down to earth person with a mixed bag of experiences steeped in a variety of circumstance and emotion.
The majority of what I have to offer are the intangibles. Sincerity, loyalty, fidelity, compassion, communication, understanding, humor, chivalry, honesty, real love. I don't have a great deal of possessions. I don't own my house. I live paycheck to paycheck. I don't have a retirement plan or a loaded bank account. I don't have some grand list of life accomplishments that I am trying to fulfill.
I have an existence wrought with scars and baggage that are ingrained into the very fabric of who I am as a person. Yet, through it all I am still here and still willing to put myself out there flaws and all with the hope that there is someone somewhere who is just right for me.
If you managed to read this far then maybe you're that person. Maybe you're the one who can look past what meets the eye and see the real treasure that lies beneath. Maybe you're the Fiona to my Shrek. There's only one way to find out for sure.
